Over The Ocean - Here We Go Magic

Can you imagine?

Beck and Feist making tune babies at Sasquatch?

I like to decorate.

Where have my lips gone?

You say you’re still in love
If it’s true, what can be done?
It’s hard to leave
All those moments behind

Kissing The Lipless - The Shins

"I beg young people to travel. If you don’t have a passport, get one. Take a summer, get a backpack and go to Delhi, go to Saigon, go to Bangkok, go to Kenya. Have your mind blown. Eat interesting food. Dig some interesting people. Have an adventure. Be careful. Come back and you’re going to see your country differently, you’re going to see your president differently, no matter who it is. Music, culture, food, water. Your showers will become shorter. You’re going to get a sense of what globalization looks like. It’s not what Tom Friedman writes about; I’m sorry. You’re going to see that global climate change is very real. And that for some people, their day consists of walking 12 miles for four buckets of water. And so there are lessons that you can’t get out of a book that are waiting for you at the other end of that flight. A lot of people—Americans and Europeans—come back and go, Ohhhhh. And the light bulb goes on."

With sore feet and a heavy heart from good conversation at work, I was excited to see that State of The Art was still open when I walked to the Convention Centre last night. The atmosphere was still upbeat, with music blaring and the intoxicated guests sometimes making it hard to squeeze through the gallery setup. I wasn’t sure what I was expecting, not having experienced anything to do with Telus Fest before, but the environment I did find was appealing; I definitely got pumped for the rest of the week.

There was a great variety of work to be found inside the building, from painting, photography, graphic design, arts & crafts, sketches… I’m a huge fan of typography and mixed media, so Sanita Mielke’s work immediately caught my eye. I like complicated work, but I really enjoy simplicity that has been created with great care to evoke a theme – to make someone feel something. So cheers to Day 2 on this adventure! I’ll have loads to share in the upcoming days. I promise not to sleep in so late.

I feel like picking up my saxophone again.

“Agency Hi-ReS! London recently invited Maricor (of MaricorMaricar fame) in to their offices to brighten up the place… and in case you’re wondering  the quote is from Samuel Beckett. We couldn’t agree more with the sentiments.”

Wow this is good! More pics of the process here. MaricorMaricar are a brilliant design duo, check out their work here http://maricormaricar.com/

I have been up for more than 12 hours today, and I’m beginning to feel strange. When I used to travel back and forth in between cities, it used to feel like I was going backwards in time. Due to seasonal changes and such, it now feels like the opposite - the rainy warmness of Vancouver makes me feel the spring that’s trying to come through while Whistler continues to receive epic amounts of powder over the next few days.

This morning started all right when I couldn’t sleep - at least I was up and ready to go on time for Fresh Tracks buffet up in Roundhouse, which I fully took advantage of. We got some great laps down the trees to the right of Emerald and underneath Garbanzo. When I was distracted by the hash brown filled plastic bag in my pocket I managed to drop my phone underneath the chair… which I luckily got back from the nice liftys. Although we left the mountain only halfway through the day, my friend Tahnee and I were able to take our time and stop to relax at Porteau Cove. It’s a place I recommend a stop to stretch your legs if you’re driving out of Vancouver; the islands that surround the coast create some beautiful scenery.

The camping that’s available fills up quick on holiday weekends, but you’ve always got the backup of going elsewhere in Squamish.

On another note, I’m continuing to brainstorm great Thought Catalog oriented articles/pieces of writing because I’m hoping to submit a portfolio to the site that one of my best friend’s greatly described as “fulfilling.”

You don’t need much, you just need honest wit, laughter and love.
